Tape Exchange September 2021

Bravest of Readers and Dearest Exchangers,

Oops! We did it again! Months have gone by since we last spoke as the days, one by one, were lost to sloth, depression, apathy, and other fun words! September was a total blur at this point as have been the last few months (and years, am I right?!). We will be rapid firing the backlogged exchanges from September, October, and November with the goal of getting December out for it’s originally scheduled deadline. On a personal note, I have quit my day job and have transitioned to living a life centered around music. Please consider checking out and supporting Oak Honest Records, O’K and the Night Crew, and my solo efforts as well. Anyways, back to the programming that you were expecting or dreading!

Did we mention that September was a blur? Let’s see, we met blues legend Mr. Kim Wilson in the flesh! We saw Ace Frehley and Alice Cooper in concert, which was incredible! We know things happened, but who knows what they were!

Raddest Tape:

September’s raddest tape was this amalgamation of assorted media, John Stamopus! This mix was a fun listen filled with bizarre choices, interesting covers, and hilarious songs. Honestly, I wish every reader could hear this mix. Cool stuff like this is exactly why this program exists and for this, we thank you!

Baddest Tape:

Coming in for September’s baddest tape is this collection of stand up comedy. It’s raunchy, hilarious, and everything stand up comedy should be! Fantastic clips from the late, great Norm MacDonald as well as many others! This is the first time we’ve received stand up comedy as a submission and we want more! Want to get your hands on it? Your best chance is to send in a tape and increase the odds of receiving it in return!

CTEP’s Contribution:

This month was a weird one, we won’t lie. It’s a mellow mix overall, but there are some rockin’ moments to be heard! There are also some folky vibes and some groovy sounds, too! This is probably the most modern-indie-oriented mix we’ve ever made. We’re not sure how to feel about that, but someone will love these songs! Could that someone be you? There’s only one way to find out! We had to incorporate some Alice Cooper and Blaze Foley as they had most certainly charmed over the course of the month. We had also fallen really deep into some Pat Finnerty content, if you’re not familiar, you should be! Shit, if you manage to read this stuff every month (usually), then you’ll absolutely love his comments on music and his comedic approach! We’ve also got more Big Thief in the mix! We’re not sponsored in anyway, just fans of their sound! Go on and get it!
